- "I recently had a disappointing experience with the Barcelona Tennis Academy (BTA) during a family vacation in Barcelona, and I feel compelled to share my experience with others to prevent similar disappointments. My family and I decided to enroll my daughter in a one-week tennis camp while on vacation, and after thorough online research, we opted for the Barcelona Tennis Academy. However, our experience did not align with the expectations set by their online marketing. Upon arrival, it became apparent that the marketing was misleading. BTA rents only 2 or 3 out of the 40+ available courts from a larger facility. We expected to join an established academy group, but instead, we were grouped with new kids who were also traveling. The level of play among these kids was considerably low, and the coaching left much to be desired. Incredibly, the coaches were teaching my daughter how to hit a forehand without moving her legs. After enduring this subpar experience for 2 hours, I approached the owner to express my concerns. He offered an 80% refund, which I accepted. However, despite multiple assurances, the promised refund was never wired to me. The owner insisted that "this is how international wires work," which, given my background in finance, I knew was incorrect. A month later, he claimed the wire had failed and promised to resend the refund. Two months passed, and still no refund materialized. Frustrated, I initiated a credit card chargeback, but I could only recover 50% of my payment. In search of a more fulfilling tennis experience, we subsequently joined Emilio Sanchez in Barcelona, which, while more expensive, proved to be worth every penny. They offered many more courts, experienced coaches, and a higher level of play. I cannot, in good conscience, recommend the Barcelona Tennis Academy to anyone. Their misleading marketing, unfulfilled promises, and subpar coaching made our experience regrettable. My advice to potential customers is simple: Buyer beware!"
